Burundi Internet Exchange Point
Burundi is an East African state bordered to the north by Rwanda, to the east and south by Tanzania and to the west by the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is located in the heart of Africa's Great Lakes with 11.55 million inhabitants. Since the internet is a key element for the economic development of the country, the Burundi government through the institutions responsible for ICT development in the country, in particular the Ministry of ICT and the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency, has motivated the operators in the country. The latter has enabled the establishment of an Internet Exchange Point to reduce the costs of the Internet and improve the quality of the Internet. Global Content Servers have also joined the initiative greatly reducing International traffic in favor of Local traffic.
